The Snapshot device from Progressive is a unique opportunity to save you money based strictly on your driving habits. You can only receive a discount by trying the program and will not be surcharged if your driving habits are determined to be unsatisfactory.
How it works
- You are sent the device that plugs into the diagnostics port on your vehicle (located below steering wheel).
- You drive with the device for 30 days
- After 30 days, you mail the device back in the same package it arrived in. You will then receive an email from Progressive with your projected savings!
How savings are applied
You can save up to 25% off your rates for the specific vehicle snapshot is plugged in to. If you have multiple vehicles, you must enroll each vehicle if you want them all eligible for discounts. Each vehicle will then be assigned a different discount based upon that vehicle’s usage.
What affects results
Hard braking, sudden acceleration, speeding, and long distance driving all hurt your potential for a discount. The device will emit a small beep if a hard brake or sudden acceleration is performed.
How to improve your chance for a discount
Slow down and take extra time when driving with the device. There are going to be times when you are forced to accelerate quickly or stop suddenly, don’t worry too much about it as Progressive expects it to happen a few times. If you can, just avoid driving! Walk, ride your bike, car pool, or take a bus. Not only will you save money on gas, you may save a little more on your insurance!
