Has your child graduated high school and going to college? If they are staying at college and will not have an automobile with them, they may be eligible for the Distant Student discount!
If an automobile is rated for an occasional youthful operator residing away from the household to attend school, and the school is more than 100 miles from the automobile’s principal place of garaging, a discount shall apply to the coverages of Bodily Injury Liability, Property Damage Liability, Passenger Accident, Comprehensive and Collision. The child will remain on your policy and they will still be able to drive when them come home!
Don’t forget about their belongings! Most likely they will have a good bit of electronics in their dorm. Check with your agent, they may still be covered under your Homeowner policy. If they are not covered, then you may want to consider purchasing a tenant or renters policy to protect their belongings.
